Late comment for me (I am slowly working through your posts!) but welcome baaack!! I've started the playlist as I read through this post, which is always a good way to experience it, I think.
I hadn't heard of the Mokkoji concert series before you spoke about it, so it was very interesting to read about your thoughts on the experience and the way Korean and Hungarian audiences can differ in their response to performers.
Ahhh, Whiplash!! The song that got me into aespa, hehe. I'm excited to listen to more of whatever the girls release. I've also seen some of their interviews and behind-the-scenes clips and so on now and they are so funny! I think Karina's Up is still my fave from those solos, followed by Winter's Spark (and I would say both of them are my biases 😄).
"They should just wake up and realize that being successful in the US and being on Billboard aren't the be-all-end-all of the music industry." - YES. I hate seeing all this pandering to the US audience. It feels like a lot of artists/groups lose what makes them *them* when this happens.
I really liked Imaginary Friend, but I strongly disliked Gold (and its choreo, haha). I don't really keep up with ITZY but it is nice to see Lia back.
As usual, a lot of artists here I'm not very familiar with, so I'm excited to continue listening to the playlist and experiencing the songs you picked out. 😍
It doesn't matter how late you comment, it will always make my day 🥰 Thanks for taking the time to go through everything I posted! I know I dumped a lot of content at once on my readers but I just needed to get this weight off my mind!
Omg, I didn't even know you got into aespa with Whiplash! That's so cool, that song totally deserves all the love. The whole comeback was just insanely good! I especially enjoyed the aesthetic part of it. I realized I didn't even add Up to my playlist! Even though I enjoyed the other songs more, it still deserved to be on there 🤦🏻 I think Winter is my bias but I definitely want to watch more of their content to be able to say so with confidence. I enjoyed their appearances on Eunchae's Star Diary, I think they were on there three times and that's how I discovered how funny they are. What were some of your favorite clips with them you watched?
I usually hate when people proclaim that this or that is ruining kpop but I do low-key agree that the pandering to the US audience actually does. I'm hoping it's just a phase and maybe one day companies will realize that even if they bend over backwards, the US entertainment industry will never take them fully seriously. Even BTS have never been treated as equals but more like a spectacle or an 'exotic' curiosity 😒
I actually don't remember the choreo of Gold anymore so it must not have made a big impression on me after all 😅 I do hope their next title track will be more to my liking because I kind of loved everything by Itzy so far and it makes me sad I didn't like this one as much.
Let me know if anything caught your attention in my playlist 💜
Haha, yeah, Whiplash really was THE song for me. It's still in my 'current' playlist too! Ooh, maybe I should check out Eunchae's Star Diary, hehe. It's mostly just been random clips and edits I've watched on YT or IG! I also enjoyed a Buzzfeed(? can't quite remember) fashion video they did.
Ugh, yeah. fingers crossed this phase disappears and we get a focus on good music again!
Ha, you already know my four faves from your playlist! Not sure if I can pick a fave fave from them, but I will say that the group SAY MY NAME was such a pleasant surprise. I liked a lot of the SEVENTEEN songs in your playlist too - I need to listen again. 🥰
I think I had a very cold image in my mind of the aespa members before I saw them on Eunchae's show! I guess that's a side effect of having such a hard-hitting concept but now I know that couldn't be farther from the truth. I saw that Buzzfeed video too, it was really fun 😊
I'm so glad I got to introduce SAY MY NAME to you and some more SEVENTEEN songs 🥰

Happy to see you back here !
None of these groups are my ults but it was nice to read your thoughts. I really enjoy your analysis.
Thank you so much for reading, even if none of your favorites were mentioned 💜
